Meeting reflection

22 05 2008

Our Informal Research Meeting took place yesterday, and I thought it was a rather nice event. We had lots of interesting presentations, great attendance and we have received plenty of helpful feedback. I’d like to thank Oge for his stimulating lecture at the beginning of the event and my students for giving the follow-up presentations – and I thank everybody for participating and sharing his/her thoughts on our research. For documentation, we have made all slides available online.

The event was really helpful for me and my group to get different perspectives on our research, and I very much would like to repeat the format of this event in the future.

Informal Research Meeting at KMI

Tomorrow, we will have an informal research meeting at the Knowledge Management Institute at TU Graz, and I am particularly happy that our guests Dr. Mathias Lux (University of Klagenfurt) and Prof. Oge Marques (Florida Atlantic University) will join us and that they both will give lectures tomorrow.

While Mathias will give a guest lecture in my course “Applications of Knowledge Management“, we have planned for the following talks in the afternoon:

I am excited to learn about Mathias’ and Oge’s research, and I hope we can give an interesting overview of the research that my group is conducting. If you are interested in one of the talks, please feel free to drop by. If you can’t attend but are still interested, I’ll try to make the slides of each talk available on the blog.

Call for Papers: SIRTEL’08

8 05 2008

I’d like to point you to a workshop that you might be interested in: SIRTEL’08, is the second

which will be held in conjunction with the 3rd European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL08), Maastricht, The Netherlands.

Workshop goals:

Learning and teaching resources are available on the Web – both in terms of digital learning content and people resources (e.g. other learners, experts, tutors). They can be used to facilitate teaching and learning tasks. The remaining challenge is to develop, deploy and evaluate Social information retrieval (SIR) methods, techniques and systems that provide learners and teachers with guidance in potentially overwhelming variety of choices.

The aim of the SIRTEL’08 workshop is to look onward beyond recent achievements to discuss specific topics, emerging research issues, new trends and endeavors in SIR for Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). The workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners to present, and more importantly, to discuss the current status of research in SIR and TEL and its implications for science and teaching.
